Man Utd's Martinez suffers cruciate ligament injury
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has suffered a serious knee injury and will be out for 'a while', says boss Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United have confirmed that defender Lisandro Martinez has suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament.
The defender sustained the injury during Sunday's 2-0 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace, the latest in a series of problems that have hampered him since his 2022 arrival.
A club statement read: "Manchester United can confirm that Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace.
"Assessment of the injury is ongoing to determine the appropriate course of treatment and the timescale for his rehabilitation.
"Everyone at Manchester United wishes Lisandro Martinez strength for a successful recovery and we will be supporting him every step of the way."
Martinez has played 91 matches for United since signing in 2022 and was key in their EFL Cup final triumph in the 2022-23 season and their FA Cup final victory in 2023-24.
Boss Ruben Amorim accepted that the Argentina international is set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
Speaking at a press conference to preview Friday's FA Cup tie against Leicester City, he said: "Licha is a difficult situation. He’s going to be out for a while.
"We don’t know the extent of the injury but it’s an injury that is going to take time."
