Portugal 9-0 Luxembourg - Highlights from Portugal's biggest ever win in international football
Portugal strolled to a record making 9-0 win over third placed Luxembourg in Group J, showing no signs of a lack of a cutting edge despite being without Cristiano Ronaldo through suspension.
The away side were always chasing the game when Portugal scored early from an accidental training ground corner routine. Bruno Fernandes made the most of a mix up and crossed beautifully for Gonçalo Inácio to score his first ever goal for Portugal.
Just a few minutes later that man Bruno Fernandes was involved again, with his high press proving too much for Luxembourg and PSG's Gonçalo Ramos finished with aplomb to score his first goal in this qualifying campaign.
The third goal arrived not long after with AC Milan's Rafael Leão putting the afterburners on and making a mockery of his opposing full-back before squaring the ball to Ramos who finished with aplomb.
The home side were enjoying themselves now and somewhat apologetically scored their fourth in first half stoppage time, as Gonçalo Inácio proved that goals are like London buses as his second ever international goal arrived shortly before the whistle.
You could have forgiven Portugal taking their foot off the gas at this point, but it wasn't long before they had their fifth thanks to a delicious through ball from Bruno Fernandes and a thumping finish from Diogo Jota.
Goal number six was then setup by the Liverpool striker with Jota assisting Ricardo Horta before getting back in the goals himself with another classy goal for Portugal's seventh.
It felt like Portugal could score at will, picking apart the Luxembourg defence time and time again and in the 83rd minute Bruno Fernandes picked up the goal that his performance so richly deserved to make it 8-0 to Portugal.
The best was saved for last as Joao Felix smashed in a record breaking ninth for Portugal, making history for Roberto Martinez's side as this was their biggest ever win.
The emphatic win takes Portugal to six wins from six in Group J with 23 goals scored and eight points clear of third placed Luxembourg.
