Despite a valiant attempt from Ireland in Dublin, Ronald Koeman's Netherlands side came out 2-1 winners in their Group B clash, moving them second in the table but still six points behind leaders France.

It was a buzzing start to the first half from Ireland, with relentless pressure on the Dutch defence in the very first minute forcing a last ditch block from a Chiedozie Ogbene shot. From that very corner that followed Ireland did in fact take the lead.

An in-swinging corner was misjudged by Liverpool's Virgil Van Dijk and he was adjudged to have committed a handball, which was punished by a penalty. 

Cody Gakpo equalised from the spot at the other end after Bazunu clattered into the Dutch attack and was booked for his error.

The winning goal came from former Man Utd striker Wout Weghorst, with the substitute sweeping in from a ball cut back from a wide position.
