The summer so far…
Quiet, a little too quiet for Crystal Palace. Having opted to keep with veteran coach Roy Hodgson and his reassuring presence in the dugout fans would be wondering if a few key names would be coming in to bolster the ranks. At the time of writing only Jefferson Lerma on a free transfer from Bournemouth and promising Brazilian Matheus França have been the only signings of note.
Worryingly Premier League clubs have been looking to sign up members of their talented squad including Michael Olise and Marc Guéhi. The biggest hole in the squad will be left by the departure of Wilfried Zaha to Turkish champions Galatasaray. The Ivory Coast winger has been the standout player at Palace for a number of years, and you fear for the South London side should he not be adequately replaced.
Player to watch…
Eberechi Eze will be looking to step up into the void created by the departure of Zaha. The England international was sparingly used in the back end of last season as Palace pulled away from the drop zone. The winger has previously excelled under Hodgson when he joined from QPR in 2020, and with a preseason under his belt the 25-year-old will be looking to make his mark in the Premier League.
Kit Watch
Sashes on football kits will never not look good. Palace have brought back the sash for their away kit, and it’s only a good thing. Stunning. 4.5/5
Predicted Finish – 12th
More of the midtable same for Palace, who seem in limbo as a Premier League. Too good to go down, yet not good enough to push up the table. The departure of the oldest Premier League manager could see a shake-up but you don’t see that happening anytime soon.
