Denmark 2 Iceland 1 – Match Report
A late Christian Eriksen penalty sets up qualification showdown with Belgium.
Christian Eriksen's stoppage time penalty ensures that Denmark still have a chance of making the Nations League finals, following a 2-1 win over Iceland.
The Danes took control of the contest early on as Eriksen stepped up to convert from the penalty spot with twelve minutes on the clock. One concern for Denmark will be keeper Kasper Schmeichel, who suffered a head injury and did not return for the second half.
Five minutes from time, Iceland levelled through substitute striker Viðar Örn Kjartansson, to give the visitors a precious point. However Denmark was not to be denied, and Christian Eriksen scored in the 92nd minute to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Denmark's late winner over Iceland means Belgium still need a point when they host the Danes on Wednesday to secure their place in the Nations League semi-finals in October 2021.
