Treble-chasing Inter sweating on Thuram's fitness
Inter Milan has confirmed Marcus Thuram has a thigh injury and faces a wait to see if he will recover in time for the Coppa Italia semi-final against AC Milan.
The Frenchman, who is Inter's top scorer in Serie A with 14 goals, is likely to miss the league match at fifth-placed Bologna on Monday (AEST), according to Italian media.
The club confirmed Thuram underwent medical tests on Friday, but there was no timeline stated for how long his absence might be.
"The tests revealed fatigue in the adductor muscles of his left thigh. His condition will be assessed day by day," an Inter statement read.
Thuram, who has started 26 league games and missed only one this season, recently dropped out of the France squad because of an ankle injury.
Across all competitions, Thuram has netted 17 goals and also provided five assists, the joint-second-most across the team. Nicolo Barella and Federico Dimarco top that list with eight.
Defending champion Inter leads the Italian top-flight standings on 71 points after 32 games, but on only on goal difference ahead of Napoli, which beat Monza 1-0 to move level on points.
Inter hosts Milan in the second leg of a Coppa Italia semi-final on Thursday (AEST), after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw.
Inter, one of eight teams which has won a league, cup and European Cup treble, is on course to repeat that feat this season.
It faces Barcelona, also a treble-winning side and chasing another this season, in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals after advancing to the last four of Europe's elite club competition with a 4-3 aggregate win over Bayern Munich last week.
