Pogba leaves Juventus after contract is terminated
Juventus has announced it has reached a mutual agreement with Paul Pogba for the termination of his contract at the Serie A club.
Pogba is currently serving a suspension after failing a doping test in August 2023. That ban was initially four years but was reduced on appeal to 18 months, meaning the Frenchman could have returned to competitive action next March.
But that will not happen with Juve, which has started a new project under coach Thiago Motta this season.
"Juventus Football Club and Paul Pogba announce that they have reached a mutual agreement for the termination of their contract as of 30 November, 2024," a club statement read.
"The club wishes Paul the very best for his professional future.'
Pogba has reportedly been training in Miami, but cannot train with another club officially until January 2025 ahead of a return to action in March, should a club pick him up.
Fenerbahce is one side that has been rumoured to be interested in the 31 year old.
"There are moments when things don’t go as we wish, but one thing is sure. The bond with you, dear fans, will forever be unforgettable," Pogba wrote on Instagram after the news of him leaving Juventus broke.
"You gave me so much – more than I can possibly express with words. I’ll forever carry with me all the affection you gave me. You’ll always be in my heart. Good luck, Juventus.”
This ends a second spell at the Bianconeri for Pogba, who also had two spells at Manchester United, which is under new management since the arrival this week of Ruben Amorim.
It is highly unlikely he will return to the Red Devils, but a return the Premier League could still be on the cards. He will now be able to join a club immediately as a free agent, and could prove a bargain if he returns with the form that made him one of the best midfielders in Europe before his ban.
Injuries limited Pogba to just 162 minutes in five appearances across the 2022-2023 season, his first campaign back in Turin after leaving Manchester United.
He then played a total of 51 minutes as a substitute before being suspended last season, reportedly agreeing to take a substantial pay cut while ineligible to represent the club.
