Roma reverts to type as Verona claims late win
Roma was back on the wrong end of the result as a late Verona winner decided a thriller 3-2 at home and moved it to within a point of the struggling capital club.
Ivan Juric's side came into the game off the back of a moral-boosting win over Torino last week, its first win in Serie A since the end of September, but despite coming back twice to level matters in either half, an 88th-minute strike from Abdou Harroui meant all three points went to the hosts.
Roma fell behind through its own fault as Casper Tengstedt pounced on a loose ball at the back and fired home the opener in the 13th minute.
That came just minutes after Roma had been correctly denied the first goal of the contenst by the assistant's flag, but it rallied and Matias Soule poked home from the edge of the six-yard box to level matters on 28 minutes.
Roma failed to deal adequately with a corner six minute later, though, and Giangiacomo Magnani rose highest to head Verona back into the lead, which it held until the break.
The visitors bundled themselves back to parity when Artem Dovbyk got the final touch on a scrappy second goal for Roma on 53 minutes, but heartbreak came two minutes from time as Harroui blasted home the winner and snapped a three-match losing streak for his side.
