Roma responds with big win over Udinese
Roma responded to the sacking of Daniele De Rossi with an emphatic 3-0 win over Udinese to move into the top 10 on the Serie A table and give new boss Ivan Juric a winning start.
The Giallorossi fired former player De Rossi, who only arrived in January to replace Jose Mourinho, after four games of the season having failed to win any of them after a defeat and three draws.
That all changed at Stadio Olimpico against Udinese as the hosts, now under the tutelage of Juric, made light work of their visitors, Artem Dovbyk scoring the opener after 19 minutes.
The score stayed at 1-0 through to half-time, but less than five minutes after the restart, Paulo Dybala doubled the lead from the spot and Tommaso Baldanzi added a third with 20 minutes remaining to put the seal on the first three-point haul of Roma's season.
“We did well in the first half, in the second we could keep our distances better. Nice response from the team,” a happy Juric said after the win.
”The boys were sad about De Rossi’s departure, they told me this themselves. I appreciated this so much, you could see that they had given everything but the results just didn’t arrive.
“We have worked a lot and well, making them perform like that will ensure that the whistles will turn into applause.”
