Retegui hat-trick helps Atalanta thrash Genoa
Atalanta backed up a big win in the UEFA Champions League with another free-scoring display as it thrashed Genoa 5-1 in Serie A.
Fresh from a 3-0 demoltion of Shakhtar Donetsk, Gian Piero Gasperini's side was no less hungry at home, Mateo Retegui netted a hat-trick in the demolition job.
He scored the opener on 24 minutes and doubled the hosts' lead five minutes into the second half.
Ederson netted a third before Retegui completed his treble from the spot and Marten de Roon added a fifth 10 minutes from time.
Genoa salvaged a small piece of pride three minutes later with a consolation through Jeff Ekhator, but it was a humbling defeat for the visitors, who remain in the bottom three with just one win from seven.
Atalanta is now inside the top 10 on 10 points with three wins, three defeats and a draw from its matches to date.
