Parma misses late penalty in draw with Empoli
Ange-Yoan Bonny missed a late penalty for Parma as it had to settle for a 1-1 draw that keeps it out of the bottom three in Serie A, but ultimately disappointed with the result.
The result was no better for Empoli, which extended its winless run to four after going ahead in this match.
The visitors took the lead in the 35th minute when Woyo Coulibaly put through his own net, sliding in to try and prevent Jacopo Fazzini scoring his first goal of the season.
Despite going ahead, the writing was on the wall for Empoli when Matteo Cancellieri struck a superb effort from distance against the crossbar on the cusp of half-time.
Gabriel Charpentier eventually got Parma on the scoresheet in the 80th minute before Bonny was handed the chance to win it from the spot two minutes later, but like Cancellieri, his shot slammed against the crossbar and rebounded safely for Empoli as both sides shared the points.
Parma remains at the wrong end of the table, two points clear of the relegation zone, while Empoli's poor run has seen it slip to 10th.
