Late own goal denies desperate Venezia a point
Jesse Joronen's own goal nine minutes from time denied Venezia a desperately needed point in Serie A as it lost 2-1 away at Verona.
The visitors had gone ahead early when Gaetano Oristanio nodded in from a corer in the second minute, but 10 minutes hadn't elapsed before Verona equalised through Casper Tengstedt's volley.
Tengstedt almost added a second straight from the restart, but put his shot inches wide.
Both goalkeepers were forced into sharp saves in the second half before a late corner wasn't dealt with by the visitors, and Joronen was the unlucky man in the way as the ball was deflected off him into the back of the net for a clumsy winner.
Venezia remains one place off the bottom of the table with four points having only won one match so far this season, with only winless Monza below. Verona, meanwhile, moved into the top 10 on nine points ahead of Como, which lost to league leader Napoli in the earlier match of the day.
