Fiorentina crushes sorry Roma with five-star show
Fiorentina's unbeaten home record remained intact after it humiliated visiting Roma 5-1 in their Serie A clash.
The victory saw La Viola reclaim fourth spot on the table with 16 points, equal with fifth-placed Atalanta which sat in fourth for 24 hours after its own big win, a 6-1 thrashing of Verona.
Fiorentina is now just one point behind third-placed Juventus and only two adrift of Inter Milan in second after those two teams drew a thrilling Derby d'Italia 4-4 earlier in the day.
Moise Kean scored the first of his two goals in the ninth minute to give the hosts the early lead, and Lucas Beltran scored from the spot to make it 2-0 after 17 minutes.
Roma pulled one back with a stunning strike from Manu Kone to spark some hope just before the break on 39 minutes, but that was quickly extinguished when Moise Kean slid in to bag his second and send the hosts into half-time leading 3-1.
The onslaught continued in the second period, Edoardo Bove scoring against his old club on 52 minutes before Mario Hermoso was shown a red to make life even more difficult for Roma as it went down to 10 men on 65 minutes.
An own-goal from Mats Hummels just six minutes later completed a shocking night for Roma, which has just two wins from its nine game so far and sits 11th on the table with 10 points.
