Boyle scores for Hibs but winds up disappointed
Australia international Martin Boyle was the first on the scoresheet as Hibernian went up against his hometown club Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership, but admitted he was disappointed after the match ended 2-2 at Pittodrie.
Both sides created a number of chances, Boyle burying his in the 12th minute with a cool finish that saw him sit Dons keeper Kelle Roos down before slotting into the empty net.
It was level three minutes later, though, when Nicy Devlin scored for the hosts and Jamie McGrath put them ahead six minutes after the break.
Emiliano Marcondes was on hand to level for Hibs to ensure both sides earned a point, but Boyle was particularly down about the goals his side conceded.
“It was an entertaining game but not the result we wanted in the end," the Socceroos star said.
"Conceding so quickly after scoring the first goal wasn’t great for us. We have to defend the box better. We’ve been working on it all week, but will have to go back to that and work on it even harder.
“There were spells where we were under pressure, but I felt like we defended well mostly.
“We had a few half chances but didn’t defend the way we’re supposed too and conceded sloppy goals. We scored two great goals. The second was a bit of genius coming off the bench - the subs have been great the last few weeks and have been playing their part.
“It was chaotic with some of the decisions and a bit stop start, but we will take the point and move forward to next week.”
Boyle has scored two goals in three games since returning from Socceroos duty at the Asian Cup.
"I had a sticky spell before I left for the Asian Cup, but I’m glad I’m back on the scoresheet and making assists," he admitted. "I hope I can continue contributing to the team.”
