Vardy labels Leicester season total embarrassment
Jamie Vardy described Leicester City's 2024-2025 Premier League season as a "total embarrassment" after its relegation to the EFL Championship was confirmed by a defeat to league leader Liverpool.
The Foxes were beaten 1-0 at King Power Stadium, with Trent Alexander-Arnold's 76th-minute strike condemning them to the second tier once again.
Vardy, who is the Foxes' top scorer this term with seven, vented his frustrations at the campaign he has endured with Leicester in an impassioned social media post after the game.
"At this point, I don't even know what to say. No words I have can ever express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone," Vardy posted to X.
"There are no excuses. Collectively, as players and as a club, we failed. There is simply no hiding, and I refuse to entertain any suggestion of doing so.
"Having been at this club for so long, we've experienced so many highs and successes - and this season has been nothing but miserable.
"And for me personally, a total embarrassment. It hurts, and I know you're feeling it too.
"To the fans: I'm sorry. Sorry we haven't performed, and sorry we end the 2025 season with such a s**t show."
It was also another frustrating match at home, with Ruud van Nistelrooy's team losing a ninth consecutive game without finding the back of the net on its own patch.
It became the first team in top-flight history to achieve that feat, while it was also the first game since February 2023 against Arsenal where it failed to have a shot on target.
Since Van Nistelrooy took over from Steve Cooper in November, he has managed just eight points from his 20 Premier League games in charge, losing 16 while winning only two of them.
Only Southampton has conceded more goals than Leicester, 54 to 50, since Van Nistelrooy was appointed, but the Foxes' problems had started long before that.
Leicester returns to action against Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend, with fixtures against Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town and Bournemouth to come.
