Klopp congratulates Slot's Liverpool
Liverpool was congratulated on its Premier League title triumph by former manager Jurgen Klopp, who believes this is just the start for Arne Slot's Reds.
Klopp called time on his glittering spell at Anfield last season after almost nine years at the helm, with Slot having big shoes to fill when he replaced the German.
But Slot's first campaign at the helm has been a roaring success, with Liverpool sealing its second Premier League title win – and its record-equalling 20th English top-flight crown overall – by thumping Tottenham 5-1 on Monday.
With four games left to play, Liverpool's title win is the joint-fourth earliest in the Premier League era.
Klopp's Reds hold the record with their 2019-23020 triumph coming with seven games remaining, while Manchester City in 2017-2018 and Manchester United in 2000-2001 both won the title with five games to play.
Slot paid tribute to his predecessor when speaking to Liverpool TV in the aftermath of the win, and Klopp has now taken to social media to congratulate the Reds.
"Super grateful for the past, super, super happy about the present, extremely positive about the future!," Klopp wrote. "Congratulations – YNWA. Thank You Luv!"
Slot is the fifth manager to win the Premier League title in his maiden season in the competition, not counting the inaugural campaign.
He follows Jose Mourinho (Chelsea, 2004-05), Carlo Ancelotti (Chelsea, 2009-10), Manuel Pellegrini (Man City, 2013-14) and Antonio Conte (Chelsea, 2016-17).
His team has averaged 2.41 points per game in the Premier League so far this campaign. Across his 334 top-flight matches with Liverpool, Klopp averaged 2.11.
While Klopp faced the task of rebuilding Liverpool's squad after taking charge in October 2015, in only three of his eight full seasons did the Reds manage more points per game than Slot's team have this season – in 2021-22 (2.42), 2018-19 (2.55), and when winning the title in 2019-20 (2.60).
