Notts County salvages late draw at Chesterfield
David McGoldrick saw a 94th-minute penalty saved but scored from the rebound to rescue a late point for Notts County in a 2-2 draw at Chesterfield that kept the visitors in EFL League Two's top three.
The Spirites went ahead early through Paddy Madden in the sixth minute, but County was level less than 10 minutes later when Alassana Jatta met a right-wing cross and scored from a towering header.
Will Grigg headed the hosts back in front with a header of his own after a corner, the goal awarded despite a hint of offside, but a late handball in the box deep into stoppage-time saw County given a spot-kick.
McGoldrick stepped up to take it and had his initial effort saved by Max Thompson, but the ball rebounded straight back in the his path and he made no mistake with the second chance.
Chesterfield came close to nicking all three points before the final whistle, but had to settle for a point that leaves it stuck in mid-table, sitting 12th with 15 points in a congested division.
There is only a four-point gap to Notts County in third with 19 points, and leader Port Vale is just two points further clear at the top.
