Kamada winner upsets Villa as Palace wins through
Daichi Kamada scored the winner after Eberechi Eze's opener for Crystal Palace as it backed up its first Premier League win of the season last weekend with a 2-1 victory at Aston Villa to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
The Eagles started the brighter of the two sides and went ahead early when Eze precisely headed Daniel Munoz's pinpoint cross into the bottom corner.
But the England attacked was forced off with injury just 10 minutes later, causing concern for Palace and its supporters.
Eze's replacement, Kamada, was then at fault for Villa's equaliser, losing the ball cheaply and it eventually ended up at the feet of Jhon Duran, whose shot squirmed past Matt Turner making his debut in the Palace goal.
There was more injury woe for Palace when Adam Wharton's already suspect groin played up again, and he also limped off before the half-hour mark, leaving Palace without two of its best and level with a host that currently tops the UEFA Champions League standings.
Villa's record of having only lost once this season might have been daunting for most opponents, but Palace pushed on and found the winner through Kamada, the Japanese making up for his earlier error by firing home with a neat finish from outside the box on 64 minutes.
Oliver Glasner's visitors never looked in trouble from there on, and will travel again in the quarter-finals to play another Premier League title contender in Arsenal for a spot in the last four.
