Late penalty leaves Villarreal frustrated
A late penalty left Villarreal having to share the points from a 1-1 draw with Getafe in LaLiga.
The spot-kick was awarded late in the game under controversial circumstances after after Getafe's Bertug Yildirim went down in the box clutching his face as a free-kick was delivered.
While the referee initially waved play on, VAR intervened and after checking the pitchside monitor, the officials decided a penalty should be awarded for Raul Albiol's flailing arm touching the Turkish player.
Mauro Arambarri made no mistake from the spot to steal a point after Santi Comesana's goal had kept Villarreal in the lead from the 44th minute.
Victory would have moved fourth-placed Villarreal level on 20 points with Atletico Madrid one spot above while for Getafe, it moved it one point clearer of the bottom three with nine points.
