Getafe off the mark as Alaves loses ground
Getafe secured its first win of the LaLiga season with a steady 2-0 home over Alaves.
The hosts got their noses in front just prior to half-time when Mauro Arambarri fired home a brilliant free-kick from the edge of the box after the dangerous Christantus Uche had been fouled.
Alaves thought it had won a penalty in stoppage-time at the end of the first half, but after being told to check the pitchside monitor by VAR, the referee changed his mind and the hosts were given a reprieve.
Ten minutes into the second half, Getafe appealed for a penalty of its own but was denied by the onfield referee, however he was again forced to change his decision after another VAR intervention, giving Luis Milla the chance to double the lead from the spot, which he duly did.
The result was Getafe's first win in five matches and lifted it out of the bottom three up to 15th on the table, which for Alaves, a second straight defeat saw it slip back to ninth.
