Gallagher scores again to salvage point for Atleti
Conor Gallagher scored his second goal in as many weeks to help Atletico Madrid come from behind to earn a point in a 1-1 draw at Rayo Vallecano.
The result means Diego Simeone's side remains unbeaten in LaLiga so far this season but lost ground on league leader Barcelona and second-placed Real Madrid ahead of the Madrid derby next week.
Gallagher was teed up by Alexander Sorloth for his second-half equaliser after Vallecano had gone in at the break thanks to a goal from Isi Palazon, which was celebrated twice after a VAR check for offside.
Sorloth chased down a long ball on 49 minutes and looked to have taken it too far before superbly jinking back from the byline to feed Gallagher, who fired a precise finish into the bottom-right corner of Vallecano's goal.
There were chances for both sides to win the contest thereafter, but they had to settle for a point in the end.
Atletico is now fourth on the table, two points behind Madrid and six adrift of Barcelona with Athletic Club in third, while Vallecano is in ninth after two wins, two draws and two defeats so far this season.
