Atleti comes from behind to see off Leganes
A double from Alexander Sorloth and a goal from Antoine Griezmann saw Atletico Madrid come back from a goal down to defeat Leganes and move back into third spot on the LaLiga table.
Diego Simeone's side struggled early in the match, and Yvan Neyou blasted Leganes ahead in the 34th minute to stun the home support, which was absent from the Metropolitano's south stand after being closed by the Spanish football federation after the trouble during the Madrid derby last month.
Atletico came into the game with just one victory in its past last five matches across all competitions, anad needed all its resolve to find a way back into the game.
Norwegian target man Sorloth was the man to do that, applying a neat backheel finish for his first just after the hour after an assist from Axel Witsel, whose inital pass was blocked.
Griezmann put Atleti ahead for the first time in the game with just nine minutes to play, sliding in to divert substitute Giuliano Simeone's cross into the back of the net, the coach's son doind superbly to keep the ball in play initially at the right corner flag.
Sorloth added the third in the ninth minute of stoppage-time to add gloss to the scoreline with a poacher's finish inside the six-yard box.
Diego Simeone praised the impact of his substitutes after they effectively sparked the comeback, reserving special praise for his 21-year-old offspring.
"The work of the boys who came in was very good, they gave us an offensive aggressiveness that was crucial to guide us to the win," Simeone said.
"[Giuliano] has been training in that position lately and doing really well. In Argentina, he also trained in the right sector, and we are seeing a lot to improve.
"But what I really appreciate is the hunger and enthusiasm that he transmits. In the second half, I think we had a bit more space to explore the back of their defence and the boys deserve this prize for their work. We hope they give us more things."
