Abraham on scoring against Roma: 'It wasn't nice'
Tammy Abraham struck twice in the first half against Roma in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday, sealing AC Milan's place in the final four.
Tammy Abraham admitted he did not like scoring against his parent club Roma after helping AC Milan progress in the Coppa Italia.
Milan's 3-1 win over Roma at San Siro booked their place in the semi-final of the competition, with Abraham scoring twice in the first half before Joao Felix marked his debut with a second-half strike.
Abraham became the first Milan player to score two or more goals against Roma in all competitions since Zlatan Ibrahimovic (October 2020 in Serie A).
He is also the third player to score for both clubs in the Coppa Italia in the last 20 seasons (since 2005-06), after Marco Borriello and Stephan El Shaarawy.
"Everybody knows how I feel about Roma, it's a club that means a lot to me. It wasn't nice," Abraham told broadcaster Mediaset after he was booed by the away fans.
"I think they thought I celebrated, but I didn't celebrate, I was just thanking God. This is football, it happens."
Meanwhile, head coach Sergio Conceicao believes his new signings, Joao Felix, Santiago Gimenez and Kyle Walker, are already allowing him to implement his preferred style of football.
Gimenez came off the bench along with Joao Felix to combine for Milan's third goal, while Walker played from the start.
Asked after the game if he saw in Milan a resemblance to the Porto side with whom he won three Primeira Ligas, four Taca de Portugal titles, a Taca da Liga, and three Supertaca Candidi de Oliveira trophies, Conceicao told broadcaster Mediaset: "I don't see the similarities with Porto yet.
"But we are working to be more compact, more aggressive, not allow the opponents to get into our final third so often.
"We're not there yet, but with the players who arrived in the transfer window, their characteristics give me the comfort to go towards the football I like, including with two strikers and the right balance not just to score goals, but also not concede them."
Milan (25) became just one of three teams to have reached the Coppa Italia semi-final at least 25 times on Wednesday, along with Juventus (36) and Inter (29).
They also stretched their unbeaten run to 11 games in all competitions in a single season for the first time since 2012-13 (13 under Massimiliano Allegri), and Conceicao says he is pleased with how quickly his players had learned the workings of his gameplan.
"We are trying to pass on to the team what we want, but we had just one training session to prepare for this game and I do not have the luxury of working on the game's details in training because we play every three days," he added.
"Nonetheless, the players accept what we want, they are intelligent, and I am happy today, especially as the second goal came from recovering the ball quickly in midfield. That was something we worked on, so I am pleased.
"Joao and Santiago also only had one training session, but understood immediately, confirming their intelligence."
