Central Cordoba defies odds to stay unbeaten
Central Cordoba leads Group C in the first phase of the Copa Libertadores after beating bottom side Deportivo Tahira at home to maintain its remarkable unbeaten record in the competition.
The competition debutant, which upset Flamengo at the Maracana in Brazil in its previous game, has seven points at the top of the table, two clear of LDU Quito at the halfway stage of the first phase, having taken only its second win in its fledgling history in the competition.
Luis Angulo got the Argentinan side ahead early, finishing a slick move in the fourth minute. Nicolas Quagliata doubled the lead in the 19th minute before Juan Requena got one back for the visitors before the break.
The second half yielded fewer opportunities for both sides, and Cordoba was able to hold out for the win, leaving it in pole position at this stage of the tournament.
