Sheff Utd, Burnley slip up, Luton and Derby keep fighting
Sheffield United conceded a 90th-minute equaliser at home to Bristol City to draw 1-1 and, while the result took the Blades to the top of the Championship by a point, they missed the chance to have a larger lead.
Tyrese Campbell had put the Blades one up with his third goal in three games in the 61st minute, which had them on course to go three points clear at the top.
But after sustained pressure, the Robins got a deserved equaliser at the end through Mark Sykes.
There was still time for a couple of late penalty claims for the Blades, with Harrison Burrows' unsuccessful shout leading to an angry coming together between players.
The point has the Blades two points above third-placed Burnley and one above second-placed Leeds United. Bristol City, meanwhile, is seventh and just two points outside the play-off places.
Elsewhere, Burnley missed the chance to go top of the league as it drew 1-1 at home to West Bromwich Albion.
West Brom impressed and took the lead through a sublime John Swift free-kick in the first half, which was the first goal the Clarets had conceded at Turf Moor since 21 December.
But just three minutes later, Zian Flemming turned a loose ball home after Joe Wildsmith spilt a shot to restore parity. Both sides then had chances to win it, with Jaidon Anthony and Mikey Johnston both hitting the bar for their respective teams.
A flashpoint came after the final whistle, with Burnley defender CJ Egan-Riley and Scott Parker both sent off alongside a member of their backroom staff. West Brom's Will Lankshear was also shown a yellow card for his part in the post-whistle melee.
Burnley remains third after the draw, while West Brom is fifth – two points above seventh-placed Bristol City.
Coventry City's five-game winning streak, meanwhile, was snapped by relegation-threatened Derby County, which won 2-0 at Pride Park.
Matt Clarke put the home side a goal ahead on 23 minutes before a spin and finish from Marcus Harness three minutes into the second half made it more comfortable.
After the defeat, Coventry are sixth in the table with a two-point lead over seventh, while Derby climbs to 22nd and are now just one point from safety.
That is because Luton Town made it two victories in three league games with a huge 2-1 victory away to fourth-bottom Cardiff City.
The Hatters initially fell behind to Calum Chambers' 50th-minute half-volley, but fought back for an invaluable three points that keeps them in the hunt for survival.
Jordan Clark got the visitor level with a sweet volley just seven minutes after Chambers' goal, while Thelo Aasgaard smashed home with 10 minutes to go. The result puts it within two points of Cardiff.
Sheffield Wednesday made it back-to-back victories to go within five points of the play-off places after beating Norwich City 3-2 at Carrow Road.
The home side was two goals up after just 35 minutes through Borja Sainz and Ante Crnac, but let its advantage slip in the second half.
Goals from Michael Ihiekwe, Josh Windass and Djeidi Gassama turned the game around for Danny Rohl's side to keep their faint play-off hopes alive. Norwich dropped to 11th and trails the top six by seven points.
