Frey turns it around as QPR stuns Luton
Michael Frey created one and scored the other as Queens Park Rangers came from behind to beat Luton Town at Kenilworth Road, leaving last season's Premier League side second bottom of the EFL Championship.
The Hatters, who are yet to win since going back down to the second tier, went ahead through an unfortunate Jimmy Dunne own goal in the 18th minute and held that lead through to half-time.
Elijah Adebayo should have doubled Luton's lead on 53 minutes when he was put clean through on goal, but QPR keeper Paul Nardi raced out to meet him and somehow managed to smother the attempt.
That missed opportunity would prove costly when a determind run and assist from Frey just before the hour mark allowed Nicolas Madesen to slot home an equaliser.
Three minutes later, Frey smashed himself home a crsip volley at the far post to turn the game on its head and earn the visitors their first league win of the season.
QPR boss Marti Cifuentes was pleased with the fighting spirit shown by his side, pointing out the key moments that helped it to put its first three points on the board.
"There were three big moments in the game. Good start from our game, but then a goal and that changes the whole momentum," he said.
"We know they are very good on set-pieces. They are a big team, very physical. From that moment, we struggled to get out of the high press as they went man-to-man all over the pitch, and we couldn't create those small connections.
"Definitely until the beginning of the second half we struggled; Paul [Nardi] keeps us in the game with a big save.
"So, then we scored for the draw, and that was the third moment in the game. Not only with the goals, but we had the dominance until the last five minutes, even when they pushed.
"When we couldn't beat the high pressure, we invested to find the right moment and the first goal showed that."
