Blades put Hull to the sword in derby
Sheffield United made light work of Hull City in the first EFL Championship game back after the international break, the 2-0 scoreline barely a reflection of the Blades' dominance throughout.
Australia's Harry Souttar made some key interventions during the early stages as Hull started in lively fashion, but the hosts went behind after 15 minutes after a dreadful giveaway from its own corner that allowed Callum O'Hare to break and play in Gustavo Hamer for the opener.
Hull went close to equalising through Abdulkadir Omar's free-kick, but he was thwarted by a flying save from Michael Cooper in the Sheffield United goal.
It was another failed Hull corner that led to Sheffield United's second goal, though. Kieffer Moore raced to a clearance ahead of Liam Miller before playing in Andre Brooks, who cut the ball back for Sam McCallum to score on 66 minutes.
Hull almost found a way back into the game when Marvin Mehlem connected sweetly with a Lewie Coyle cross, but his header bounced down off the bar and was quickly hacked away by the visiting defence.
It was a rare sight of goal for the home side, which will need to improve significantly if it is to be seen among the contenders for promotion to the Premier League and haul its way up from 19th in what is always an intensely competitive league.
As for Sheffield United, it remains very much one of the favourites to go up, moving up to third on the table, a point behind second-placed West Bromwich Albion and just three off Sunderland in top spot.
This marks the best start to a campaign since the 2012-2013 season, which saw it go unbeaten in its first 16 games in EFL League One.
Manager Chris Wilder also continued his good record as Blades boss at MKM Stadium, winning a fourth successive match away to Hull after losing in February 2018, in his first spell in charge.
