Ten-man Werder holds on to beat Mainz
Werder Bremen played for half an hour with 10 men, but managed to hold on to a 2-1 advantage and grab its first win of the season, beating Mainz in their Bundesliga clash.
Werder started brightly away from home, scoring from the spot in the eighth minute through Marvin Ducksch.
But Mainz fought back to level matters before the break when Lee Jae-sung scored.
Things got worse for the visitors when Marco Friedl was given him marching orders on the hour, but nine minutes later, Derrick Kohn grabbed a second for Werder despite the numerical disadvantage, to earn his side its opening win of the season.
