Metcalfe extends St Pauli deal
Australia international Connor Metcalfe has extended his deal at St Pauli, the Bundesliga club announced.
Metcalfe joined St. Pauli from Australian top-flight club Melbourne City ahead of the 2022-2023 season.
Since then, the 24-year-old has appeared 65 times in the 2. Bundesliga and the DFB Cup, scoring six goals and contributing seven assists.
Metcalfe's success with the German club has also seen him cement a place in his national team squad, having played 23 matches for the Socceroos.
“Connor brings with him everything required to play an even bigger role with us in the coming years," St Pauli manager Alexander Blessin said. "He’s got a good football brain, is a hard tackler and is able to set up his team-mates or get into dangerous positions himself.
"Those are qualities that we’re going to need both this season and beyond, so it’s great that we can now plan with him long term.”
Metcalfe expressed his delight at signing on with the Hamburg-based club, where he shares the dressingroom with his international team-mate and close friend, Jackson Irvine. “After a good two years in Hamburg and at FC St. Pauli, I can say that I feel at home here," he said.
"Above all, I’m in exactly the right place from a football perspective too. We’ve got a fantastic team, where I can develop well as a player, and with this coming season in the Bundesliga an extremely exciting challenge ahead of us. It was therefore clear to me that I wanted to be part of this group and of this club in the coming years too.”
