Mainz secures first win after thriller at Augsburg
Jonathan Burkardt netted a brace as Mainz held off Augsburg to win 3-2 in a Bundesliga thriller, both sides finishing the game with 10 men.
Burkardt scored in the 15th and 49th minutes to put the visitors back in front Armindo Sieb's opener had been equalised by Keven Schlotterbeck for Augsburg.
Nadiem Amiri had been sent off in the 35th minute for Mainz, and when Samuel Essende scored a second for the hosts on 57 minutes, Mainz was forced to cling on.
But Essende also saw red with 20 minutes remaining, and the visitors held firm for their first win of the season, moving them up to 10th on the table, while Augsburg is in 12th.
