Kiel strikes late to earn historic first point
Holstein Kiel won an historic first Bundesliga point after a late equaliser from Shuto Machino earned a 2-2 draw at Bochum to leave St Pauli all alone in last spot.
Kiel was promoted to the top flight for the first time in its history at the end of last season, but three defeats from its first three matches had highlighted the gap between the top two tiers of German football.
Bochum was also searching for its first points of the season having also been a loser in its opening three fixtures, so the opportunity was there for either side to move away from the foot of the table.
The visitors pounced first and went ahead through Benedikt Pichler after a quarter of an hour, but Matus Bero drew Bochum level just seven minutes later and Lukas Daschner had the home side ahead at the break.
But Machino came off the bench in the 79th minute and was on hand with just a minute remaining to tap in from close range and make history for his side.
