Honsak stunner boosts Heidenheim's survival hopes
A sensational 89th-minute winner from Mathias Honsak saw Heidenheim stun Stuttgart at home to boost its Bundesliga survival hopes.
The visitors moved five points clear of the bottom two automatic relegation spots in Germany's top flight, pulling off a vital victory after three successive defeats.
Honsak picked the ball up on the edge of the Stuttgart penalty, dropped his shoulder to open up a little space area before curling a sumptuous left-foot strike into the top corner to send the travelling supporters wild with excitement.
Both sides hit the woodwork prior to the winner, but it was Stuttgart that showed most of the attacking intent.
The hosts held 70 per cent of the possession and fired off 19 shots to Heidenheim's six, but only three of them were on target, leading to a frustrating result that almost certainly ends what slim hopes remained of a place in the European qualifying spots.
Despite the win, Heidenheim's situation is far from precarious. It remains five points off absolute safety with three matches left to play, and currently occupies the relegation play-off spot.
Those last three games will be against Bochum, Union Berlin and Werder Bremen.
