High-flying Leipzig keeps pressure on Bayern
RB Leipzig briefly led the Bundesliga after a 1-0 away win against Heidenheim lifted it above Bayern Munich and Einracht Frankfurt ahead of their draw later in the day.
Lois Openda scored the game's only goal in the 59th minute as his side recorded a fourth straight clean sheet in the competition to put pressure on the top two.
"We are really strong together. Our objective is to be strong, to be like a family, like a team, and to show it on the pitch. That’s what we’ve shown since the start of the season," Openda said.
Heidenheim frustrated Leipzig for long periods in the first half, limiting them to few chances, one of which fell to Xavi Simons at the end of the period, but goalkeeper Kevin Mueller kept him out.
Leipzig improved after the break and eventually carved up Heidenheim's rearguard to produce Openda's winner.
Antonio Nusa was the architect, spotting the Belgian's run and sending him a perfectly-weighted pass to finish off at the near post.
Openda might have had a second but he hit the post a couple of minutes from time before Leipzig survived some late pressure from the hosts to take all three points.
Leipzig is second on the table behind Bayern only on goal difference as both sides have collected 13 points.
