Freiburg blows Augsburg away to move into third
A ten-minute first-half salvo saw Freiburg put away Augsburg with a 3-1 win in the Bundesliga.
Freiburg led a constant assault on Augsburg's goal for the first half an hour, and the game exploded into life on 34 minutes when Vincenzo Grifo fired home from range to finally put the host in front.
Three minutes later the lead was doubled as Philipp Lienhart headed home from a corner and Christian Gunter made it 3-0 before the break when he blasted in a long-range rocket in the first minute of stoppage-time at the end of the first half.
Augsburg scored in the 65th minute when Philipp Tietz showed composure to finish inside the box, but it was little more than a consolation as Freiburg took third spot on the table with 15 points, just two behind leader Bayern Munich and second-placed RB Leipzig, to which it travels next weekend.
