Bochum stays bottom as Wolves move up
Wolfsburg eased its way clear of the relegation zone in the Bundesliga with a comprehensive 3-1 win at bottom side Bochum.
Bochum was denied a penalty in the 18th minute for handball when the onfield decision was overturned after a VAR check, and things got worse when Tiago Tomas put the visitors in front on 21 minutes with a fine finish from inside the box, despite a slip.
Jonas Wind added to the lead with a quality volley before half-time, and it seemed the Wolves were cruising to a second win of the campaign.
Mohamed Amoura should have put the game beyond doubt in the 53rd minute but his shot hit the post and bounced clear of danger, and 20 minutes later, Bochum pulled a goal back through Myron Boadu after the visitors failed to clear their lines.
It was just a blip for Wolfsburg, though, and when Patrick Wimmer rattled the crossbar from range with 10 minutes to play, it seemed only a matter of time before the visitors would seal the win.
That moment came on the 88th minute when VAR again ruled in favour of Wolfburg, and Wind stepped up to shoot from the penalty spot. While initial effort was saved, he buried the rebound to send the Wolves home with all three points.
