Bayern thrashed as Tuchel bows out with defeat
Bayern Munich failed to send Thomas Tuchel off with a win after giving up a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 at Hoffenheim on the final day of the Bundesliga season.
Early goals from Mathys Tel and Alphonso Davies saw the injury-depleted Bavarian side go 2-0 up by the sixth minute.
Hoffenheim, however, pulled a goal back through Germany international Maximilian Beier just two minutes later, with the hosts gradually taking some of the early pace out of the game.
Bayern was already without leading striker Harry Kane, as well as Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane, and saw its injury troubles further compounded when it lost Aleksandar Pavlovic in the 35th minute.
Tuchel's side struggled to cope with Hoffenheim's threat, and Andrej Kramaric delivered a stunning 19-minute hat-trick with the Bayern defence in ruins, ending a disappointing season in third place with 72 points.
This performance was indicative of Bayern's first season without a trophy in more than a decade, having played outstandingly to reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, but also falling prey to weaker opponents, including third-tier Saarbruecken, which beat it them in the DFB-Pokal.
Bayer Leverkusen finished in top spot on 90 points. VfB Stuttgart finished runner-up on 73 with a 4-0 demolition of Borussia Moenchengladbach, while Hoffenheim finished seventh, in the UEFA Europa Conference League place.
Thomas Muller made his 473rd Bundesliga appearance for Bayern, drawing level with Sepp Maier as the club's record appearance maker in the competition in a rare highlights for the team.
Bayern failed to have a single shot on target in the second half, while Kramaric ran riot to subject Bayern to its worst league finish since 2011.
