Bayern ready to bounce back after European exit
Vincent Kompany says Bayern Munich is ready to show "how good we are" by bouncing back from its UEFA Champions League exit to Inter Milan with victory in the Bundesliga.
Bayern crashed out at the quarter-final stage after playing out a 2-2 draw at San Siro in the second leg, as it was unable to overturn the first leg deficit, losing 4-3 on aggregate.
While hopes of clinching the European trophy are over, Bayern is still in a strong position to win the Bundesliga, which it leads by six points as the climx to the season approaches.
Defending champion Bayer Leverkusen is second with five games remaining.
Heidenheim is next up for Bayern, which lost its first Bundesliga away game in Heidenheim 3-2 after leading 2-0 last season.
The last team Bayern lost its first two top-flight away matches against was Freiburg in 1993 and 1994.
But Bayern has lost only two of its first 29 Bundesliga games this season, winning 21 of them, the first time it has done this since 2016-2017 under Carlo Ancelotti.
Kompany is confident his side can quickly put the Champions League result behind it by switching attention to the title race.
"We want to use everything we can use so that we're better in the next match," Kompany said.
"I'm naturally very motivated and hungry. I don't need much to be back with full energy again the day after.
"It's best that we're playing so quickly again. The absolute priority is what we do in the next 90 minutes against Heidenheim."
Kompany also confirmed that Bayern is still without goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who remains sidelined with a calf injury despite travelling with the team to Milan in midweek.
Bayern already has a long list of injured players, which includes midfielder Jamal Musiala, defenders Dayot Upamecano, Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Ito and Sven Ulreich.
It has been dealt another blow ahead of the meeting with Heidenheim, with Leon Goretzka set to miss the game with a calf injury picked up in training.
"Leon Goretzka will be out of the match against Heidenheim after sustaining a calf injury," a Bayern statement read.
