Augsburg picks up the win to jump over Gladbach
Augsburg bounced back from two straight defeats to take a much-needed 2-1 win against Borussia Moenchengladbach in the Bundesliga.
Gladbach came into the match of a win last time out, and looked intent on controlling the match early, but the first goal came when the hosts went ahead seven minutes before the break.
Elvis Rexhbecaj delivered a teasing cross that the Gladbach defence failed to clear and Keven Schlotterbeck was on hand to blast home a sensational shot having calmly chested the ball down.
Gladbach pushed hard for an equaliser as the second half started, Tomas Cvancara forcing a sharp save from Augsburg goalkeeper Nediljko Labrovic not long after the restart.
But again it was the hosts that caught out Gladbach, debutant Alexis Claude-Maurice scoring eight minutes after coming off the bench with a clinical finish on 65 minutes.
Gladbach didn't shy away from the contest, though, and picked up a goal of its own on 72 minutes when Tim Kleindienst headed home from a corner.
But ultimately Augsburg's defence would hold firm through to the final whistle, lifting it above its opponent on the table, where it sits in 11th position on seven points, with Gladbach 12th a further point behind.
