Salah scores as Egypt widens the gap
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was on the scoresheet as Egypt beat Mauritania 2-0 in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying to move six points clear at the top of Group C.
Salah finished off a swift move from Egypt's own half, charging into the box to tap home a precise left-wing cross from Mohamed Hamdy to seal the three points in Cairo.
The hosts had gone ahead 10 minutes earlier when Trezeguet lashed home an unstoppable bullet of a shot inside the box as Mauritania struggled to clear its lines having held on resolutely until then despite heavy pressure from the Pharaohs.
The two sides will play again next week with Mauritania hosting and looking for its second win of the qualifying campagin, while Egypt will look to stay perfect having won all three of its matches so far.
