Morocco wins breathless battle with gutsy Gabon
Morocco came out on top of Gabon in a wild Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, winning 4-1 at Adrar Stadium in Agadir to open its campaign.
The first half saw four penalties awarded, two for each side, with Hakim Ziyech netting both of Morocco's in the 10th and 26th minutes while Gabon talisman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed his first but scored his second to make it 2-1 at the break.
Gabon had plenty of chances to level the match too, but goals from Brahim Diaz and Ayoub El Kaabi sealed the win for Morocco, taking it to the top of Group B.
Morocco will play Lesotho in its second match on Tuesday (AEST) while Gabon will be looking for a better result when it plays Central African Republic on Wednesday (AEST).
