Jackson breaks duck as Senegal runs riot
Chelsea frontman Nicolas Jackson scored his maiden goal for Senegal as his national side breezed past 10-man Malawi in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, winning their Group L clash 4-0.
Malawi was up against it from the 16th minute when goalkeeper Brighton Munthali was sent off for dragging down Sadio Mane on the edge of the box, denying the former Liverpool and Bayern Munich man an opportunity to score.
Nothing came from the free-kick that followed, but Senegal did go into the half-time break a goal to the good after Pape Gueye fired a powerful shot into the goal, the Villarreal man's strike bouncing in off the crossbar 10 minutes before the break.
Mane got in on the act in the 68th minute as Malawi's legs began to tire, and Boulaye Dia added a third three minutes later, the Lazio forward coming off the bench and showing compsure at close quarters before slotting home his goal.
Jackson's moment came 13 minutes from time when he collected the ball on the edge of the box, dribbled inside it and teased his way across three Malawi defenders before firing a shot through substitute goalkeeper George Chikooka to make it 4-0.
Senegal is second in Group L after three matches, behind leader Burkina Faso on goals scored, while Malawi remains the only winless team in the group after three straight defeats.
