Botswana draw with Mauritania enough to qualify
Botswana's 1-1 draw with Mauritania in Francistown proved to be enough to qualify it for the Africa Cup of Nations finals after Cape Verde and Egypt also drew 1-1 in their game to end Cape Verde's hopes of playing in Morocco next year.
The Lions of Chinguetti struck first in the seventh minute, thanks to an incredible free-kick from Aboubakary Koita, who somehow found the top corner from miles out with a blistering strike.
But the Zebras showed didn't have to wait long to level matters, and their goal also came from a set-piece, Gilbert Baruti eventually scoring the goal after Mauritania had failed to adequately clear from a free-kick into the box.
The second half saw less opportunities for both sides, althrough the two goalkeepers were at their very best to keep out the clearest chances at both ends.
The draw left Botswana waiting nervously to see if Egypt could provide it with a positive result in Cape Verde, and a 1-1 draw was just enough.
