Germany call up Bisseck for Nations League clash with Italy
Inter defender Yann Bisseck could be handed his Germany senior debut against Italy in the blockbuster Nations League clash next week.
Yann Bisseck has received his first senior Germany call-up, while Leon Goretzka has been recalled for the Nations League quarter-final clash with Italy.
Julian Nagelsmann's side travel to San Siro to face the Azzurri in the first leg on March 20, before welcoming them to Signal Iduna Park for the return fixture three days later.
Inter defender Bisseck has been given the nod by Nagelsmann following a solid season with the Nerazzurri, for whom he has made 29 appearances in all competitions and helped to the Serie A summit.
Meanwhile, Bayern midfielder Goretzka returns to the squad for the first time since November 2023, and Nadiem Amiri is back after a four-year absence, having impressed for Mainz this term.
Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi is also recalled, along with David Raum and the Stuttgart trio of Deniz Undav, Angelo Stiller and Jamie Leweling.
However, Florian Wirtz, Kai Havertz and Aleksandar Pavlovic are absent through injury, while the likes of Serge Gnabry, Julian Brandt and Robin Gosens also miss out.
"Although we have to cope with some absences, we generally have a very good squad," Nagelsmann said.
"We chose these players out of conviction and tried to replace the lack of quality with quality, with players who are eager to play.
"The quarter-final against Italy is very important for us. These are two games that we absolutely must and want to play positively."
