Sacchi urges AC Milan to make a move for Ancelotti
Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid future looks to be in major doubt, and Arrigo Sacchi thinks AC Milan should try to bring him to San Siro.
Arrigo Sacchi has urged AC Milan and Roma to give Carlo Ancelotti a call should he leave Real Madrid.
Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League after a 5-1 aggregate defeat to Arsenal in the quarter-finals, with some reports suggesting Ancelotti could now be sacked after the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on April 26.
Los Blancos are currently seven points off leaders Barca in LaLiga, with a game in hand which will be played against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
Sergio Conceicao had been brought in to improve Milan's fortunes after Paulo Fonseca was sacked in December, but since winning the Supercoppa Italiana in January, his side have struggled for consistency.
Milan will face third-placed Atalanta in Serie A on Sunday as they look to close the gap on the top four.
However, after going unbeaten in five consecutive games (W4 D1), they have lost two of their last three Serie A games (D1) against La Dea.
Milan are ninth in Serie A, eight points off fourth-placed Juventus with six games remaining, with a Champions League place for next season in doubt.
And Sacchi, who enjoyed two spells in charge of Milan, believes there is no harm in his former club, and Roma, trying to speak with Ancelotti.
"I don't know what Carletto wants to do," Sacchi told Gazzetta. "Apparently, the Brazilian federation has been after him for a while now, and surely the chance to coach the Selecao at the World Cup is tempting.
"In any case, I'd give Carletto a call if I were at Milan or Roma. It doesn't cost anything. I don't know if the dream will come true. For now, let's just keep dreaming."
Despite Sacchi's interest in Ancelotti joining Milan, he insisted Madrid should think twice before letting him leave after this season.
Ancelotti returned to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2021 and has since won 11 trophies, including two Champions League titles, two LaLiga titles, the Copa del Rey and the Club World Cup.
"What makes me sad, even if this is part of football, is that everyone is criticising Carletto because of a Champions League exit and blaming him for the elimination," Sacchi added.
"Do these people have any idea who Ancelotti is? Do they know what he has won? I consider him a real master of the game, not just because of the trophies, but also for his human qualities.
"Real Madrid should think not once, but twice or three times, before letting go of someone like Carletto."
