Juventus must learn from nervy finish versus Lecce, says Tudor
Igor Tudor called on Juventus to learn from their hard-fought win over Lecce, with his side having almost squandered a two-goal lead.
Juventus will learn from the nervy ending to their 2-1 home win over Lecce in Serie A on Saturday, coach Igor Tudor has promised.
Teun Koopmeiners put Juve in front inside two minutes and Kenan Yildiz doubled their advantage after the half-hour mark, as they dominated the first half.
Koopmeiners' goal, timed at one minute and 37 seconds, was the fastest scored by a Juve player in Serie A since the one scored by Dusan Vlahovic against Roma in August 2022.
Lecce's Federico Baschirotto, however, pulled a goal back late on with a powerful header after Juve took their foot off the gas following the restart.
"We played a good game and after a ball lost by [Khephren] Thuram we got nervous," Tudor told a press conference.
"There is regret because we didn't finish the game well. We have to take this as a lesson."
Juventus kept Lecce under pressure for most of the opening 45 minutes, but the second half was sedate by comparison.
Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio had already made one brilliant save to deny Ante Rebic before Baschirotto's goal gave them hope of a fightback.
"I didn't like the substitutions," Tudor said. "Football is no longer like it was before with the five substitutions... I didn't like how they came in.
"You have to grow quickly and everyone can have excuses, but in the end the most important thing is the team."
Tudor made a triple change in the 67th minute, introducing Timothy Weah and Randal Kolo Muani as well as defender Andrea Cambiaso, before Francisco Conceicao and Nicolo Savona joined later on.
Juventus provisionally moved up to third in the standings on 59 points, before fourth-placed Atalanta – who trail them by one point – host Bologna on Sunday.
