Brooks: Bournemouth must 'keep feet on ground' despite club-record run
The Champions League places are within touching distance for Bournemouth, but David Brooks says the Cherries must focus on plugging away.
David Brooks said Bournemouth must "keep our feet on the ground" after their 1-0 win over Everton moved the Cherries to within three points of the Champions League places.
Andoni Iraola's side extended their unbeaten run to a club-record eight Premier League games, after Brooks' volley settled a tight contest on the South Coast.
Both of Brooks’ Premier League goals for Bournemouth this season have been as a substitute, while this is just the second campaign in the competition in which he’s scored more than once (seven in 2018-19).
The Cherries have claimed 18 points from their 10 top-flight home games this season, with only Chelsea and Brighton coming away from the Vitality Stadium with a victory.
The Opta supercomputer hands Bournemouth just a 3.6% chance of finishing in the top four this season, but Brooks was keen to temper those expectations for his side.
"Nobody really likes coming to play us here and, every home game, we go into it thinking we can win," Brooks told Premier League Productions.
"We have to just keep our feet on the ground and keep plugging away game by game."
"When you play Everton, especially over the past few years, you know it's going to be a physical and tough game.
"You need a bit of quality to finish it off. It's not a game with a lot of clear-cut chances, but we took one and got the three points.
Iraola echoed the thoughts of Saturday's match-winner, but is hopeful that his players can maintain their level of performance in the coming weeks.
"We are happy with the run of games, the results and the performances. I think we now play four of the next five against top five teams, who are ahead of us, so I hope we can continue with this level of performance.
"I don't know if it is enough to beat these teams, but we will try to be competitive with the teams at the top."
Meanwhile, Everton's winless streak extended to five matches, as the Toffees failed to register a single shot on target against Bournemouth.
Sean Dyche's side have now failed to score in a league-high 11 different games this season, just one fewer than they failed to score in across the whole of last season (12).
And Abdoulaye Doucoure knows Everton's profligacy is an issue they must address as soon as possible.
"A very difficult performance," the Toffees midfielder said. "The first half was not good enough from us, and we know that. We tried in the second half to correct that, and fight more for the first and second balls.
"Unfortunately, we couldn't score, and then they scored in the worst moment of the game, because I think it was more like a draw.
"Obviously, in the Premier League, you have to compete, and it's very hard to take. Small moments can make the difference. We are going to learn and fight. Hopefully, we can bounce back.
"Goals give you wins and, at the moment, we can't find a way to score goals. That's a fact. We cannot hide from that. We need to find a way to score goals."
