OFFICIAL: Barcelona Announces Record-Breaking Deal with Nike
Barcelona and the global brand Nike have sealed a multi-year partnership, starting this season, as the club announced on Saturday. While Barça hasn’t disclosed the deal’s length or financial details, sources from the negotiation suggest it could secure the Catalan club the highest sponsorship in sports.
The renewal with the American multinational, which first partnered with Barça in 1998, was expected after club president Joan Laporta urgently called a virtual meeting with the board to share the terms, which were swiftly approved.
A few months back, Laporta described this agreement as "the most significant in the world of football," though exact numbers remain undisclosed. The previous Nike contract was set to expire in 2028. Barcelona had considered a significant offer from Puma and even the idea of creating and distributing its own apparel brand. This led to a legal dispute between Barça and Nike, with the U.S. company ultimately winning in court.
Earlier in the season, Laporta mentioned in a press briefing that they had improved the deal’s terms, saying that "when it’s signed," it would be "the best contract in football." "This deal would’ve allowed us to maintain a 1:1 spending ratio and sign players without restrictions, but our goal is securing the best possible contract for Barça, and we're on that path now," he said at the time.
In any case, the new Nike agreement will provide Barcelona with substantial financial relief after years of financial strain. While exact figures haven’t been released, the contract—including a signing bonus—could bring the club around €120 million per season.
The deal’s value will increase after 2028, when the current contract was set to end, and continue rising until 2038, when the new deal wraps up. Negotiations also included discussions about e-commerce control, currently handled by Nike. Barça was pushing to manage its online sales, which would further boost revenue in that area.
