Which Team Has Won the Most Copa América Titles?
Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil are the top winners of this historic national team tournament.
The story takes us back to 1916 when the first edition of the Copa América was held. This tournament is the oldest at the national team level and was previously known as the "South American Championship of National Teams," where only CONMEBOL teams participate.
On the other hand, Mexico started participating in this tournament as a guest in 1993; however, CONCACAF has prevented them from continuing to participate because they want Mexico to focus more on the Gold Cup, a tournament for national teams organized by CONCACAF.
Uruguay and Argentina share the top spot for the most championships won, with 15 editions each. Brazil, on the other hand, is the third country with the most wins, having lifted the cup nine times. Argentina was the host country for the first edition of the Copa América, which Uruguay ended up winning.
Other teams that have also won the Copa América are: Paraguay (2), Chile (2), Peru (2), Colombia (1), and Bolivia (1).
