Bahia take the lead after beating Atlético Nacional in the Copa Libertadores
Bahia jumped to the top of Group F in the Copa Libertadores after a 1-0 win over Atlético Nacional this Thursday at the Arena Fonte Nova. The only goal of the match came from super sub Willian José, who came off the bench to secure the victory.
Super sub strikes again
Brazilian striker Willian José scored in the 71st minute, just three minutes after replacing Luciano Rodríguez. His goal was enough to seal all three points and keep Rogério Ceni’s team unbeaten in the tournament.

The Colombian side, coached by Argentine Javier Gandolfi, improved a bit in the second half after bringing on Edwin Cardona, but they were missing several key starters and couldn’t find the equalizer. They’ve now lost five straight away games in the Copa Libertadores, leaving their chances of advancing hanging by a thread.
Late controversy
In the 88th minute, Paraguayan ref Mario Díaz de Vivar ruled out a header from Dairon Asprilla for an alleged foul, sparking loud protests from the visiting players, who felt they were robbed of a much-needed equalizer.
Earlier in the week, Internacional and Nacional drew 3-3 in Porto Alegre, keeping things tight in the group. With this win, Bahia now sit top with 7 points, followed by Internacional (5), Atlético Nacional (3), and Nacional (1). Next up, Bahia will host Nacional on May 7, while Atlético Nacional welcome Internacional on May 8.
