Max Verstappen Wins a Rain-Soaked Montreal GP
The Dutch driver managed to come out on top in a race filled with accidents and rain
The Dutch three-time Formula 1 champion, Max Verstappen (Red Bull), secured his eighth victory of the season at the Montreal Grand Prix, held at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Canada, in a race dominated by rain and Safety Cars. The rest of the podium was completed by Lando Norris (McLaren) and George Russell (Mercedes).
Verstappen, who started from the second position after matching Russell's qualifying time, took advantage of a Safety Car on lap 25—following a collision between Logan Sargeant and the barrier—to seize the Pole Position from Norris, who made a late pit stop; however, during the race, the leading position was exchanged between the McLaren driver, Russell, and "Super Max."
After nine races, Max Verstappen leads the drivers' standings overwhelmingly with 194 points, followed by Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) with 138 and Lando Norris with 131 points. Meanwhile, the constructors' standings are led by Red Bull, followed by Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes.
The race, held in Montreal, was one of the most accident-prone as there were five retirements: American Logan Sargeant (Williams), Charles Leclerc, Mexican Sergio Pérez (Red Bull), Alex Albon (Williams), and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari).
The next race on the Formula 1 calendar will be in Barcelona from June 21 to June 23, held at the Circuit de Catalunya.
